The Dallas Cowboys have made their intentions of signing quarterback Tony Romo to a multi-year contract extension clear. Team vice
president Stephen Jones told NFL.com yesterday that the Cowboys and Romo’s
representatives have begun negotiations on a three- or four-year contract
extension.
Romo is currently set to enter the final year of his
contract. He and the Cowboys share a mutual interest in reaching a new deal
that will keep the quarterback in Dallas well beyond 2013.
"We think we have a great quarterback and we want him to be our quarterback here for the next four to five years," Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas, according to FOX Sports Southwest.
Last season, Romo threw for a career-high 4,903 yards with
28 touchdowns and 19 interceptions, while completing 65.6 percent of his
passes. He’s topped 4,000 passing yards in four of the past six years, while
throwing 26 or more touchdowns in five of the last six seasons.
