Cowboys rumors: Dallas to keep Jay Ratliff

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett told the NFL Network that he “absolutely” expects nose tackle Jay Ratliff to be back with the team next season.

Ratliff is coming off an injury-plagued campaign during which he was limited to six games. When he was able to suit up for Dallas, the defensive lineman only amassed 16 tackles with no sacks.

Ratliff was healthy enough to be arrested for DUI this offseason, leading some to speculate that the veteran could be a potential roster casualty as the Cowboys look to decrease their salary cap burden.

However, NFL.com points out that Dallas wouldn’t actually save money by cutting Ratliff based on how his contract is structured. Garrett also noted that the team believes the seven-year pro is a scary good player when healthy. Ratliff is expected to fit in well with new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin’s 4-3 scheme.
