49ers Rumors: Chasing Darrelle Revis

Following the departure of Alex Smith to Kansas City, the 49ers have a heap of draft picks with which to test the free agency market once it opens in March.  The NFC champions could be looking to the bright lights of New York and Darelle Revis to sort out their need for a cornerback, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports

The 49ers are among a handful of teams that have discussed making a run at Revis this offseason, according to two sources. In fact, the 49ers are poised to make a run at Revis even if it’s just for one season (although that could be problematic from Revis’ standpoint).

The 49ers have 11 picks in the forthcoming draft as well as three more compensatory picks to follow.  Yet as a short-term solution, he is a steal with a salary of just $6m (after bonuses).

The Jets though under new general manager, John Idzik, will be patient to hold out for the right deal for both themselves and Revis will only leave if he gets the money he feels his performance before his knee injury warranted.

The Niners may hold all the cards, but the Jets may hold out.
