Ravens Safefty Ed Reed Not Considering Retirement

While Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has declared he’s retiring following the Super Bowl, safety Ed Reed is not considering calling it a career just yet. The All-Pro told reporters, including Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun, yesterday that he’ll be “playing next year.”

Reed has talked about retirement before, but it seems like he’s as close to a sure bet as can be to return for 2013. However, there’s no guarantee that if he does decide to play another season, he’ll be doing so with the Ravens.

Reed is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, and he figures to garner significant interest. Baltimore could elect to use their franchise tag on the veteran safety, but they may instead need to exercise it on another player, such as quarterback Joe Flacco.

This season Reed totaled 58 tackles and four interceptions with three fumble recoveries and one touchdown scored.
