Prior to the Baltimore Ravens’ playoff run, veteran
linebacker Ray Lewis announced that he would retire following the 2012 season.
It’s carried him through to the Super Bowl, and Lewis continues to say he’ll
hang up his cleats following this weekend’s final game of the season. However,
long-time teammate Ed Reed is skeptical about Lewis’ retirement talk, according
to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com.
Reed told reporters gathered for Super Bowl XLVII not to be “so
sure” that Lewis will be retiring after the season. In referring to Lewis, Reed
said “maybe he’ll play 10 games next year.”
Reed’s skepticism came up following Lewis’ initial
announcement, and it appears that he’s still not completely convinced that the
future Hall of Famer will call it quits after the Super Bowl.
For Lewis’ part, he reportedly has a multi-year contract in
place with ESPN as an analyst, and he’s told reporters that his family commitments
– his son is getting ready to join the Miami Hurricanes as a freshman running
back next fall – currently outweigh his desire to play another season.
