Akers missed a pair of field goals during San Francisco’s
win over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, one from 44 yards and another from 40.
One the season, Akers missed 13 field goal attempts, including four in the team’s
last three games.
The 49ers previously worked out Cundiff earlier in the year
as a result of Akers’ struggles. San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh has said
that he will consider signing a second kicker to the roster or just replacing
the veteran Akers altogether.
Cundiff was released by the Baltimore Ravens during training
camp before signing on with the Washington Redskins earlier this year. He made
only seven of 12 field goal attempts before being released.
Medlock started the season with the Carolina Panthers,
appearing in 10 games before being let go. He missed attempts in three straight
games before the Panthers elected to hand kicking duties over to Graham Gano.
