Browns Rumors: Cleveland to Fire Pat Shurmur, Tom Heckert

The Cleveland Browns are expected to part ways with coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert Monday following their regular season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, reports Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert are expected to either be fired or part ways with new owner Jimmy Haslam and new CEO Joe Banner by Monday, league sources told The Plain Dealer.

Shurmur and Heckert will either be informed of the Browns’ decision shortly after the game or sometime Monday morning, according to Cabot. Entering Sunday’s matchup with the Steelers, Shurmur has led Cleveland to a 9-22 record during his tenure with the team.

Cabot notes that as the Browns seek a replacement for Shurmur some of the “most coveted” candidates are current NFL offensive coordinators, including Josh McDaniels of the New England Patriots and Bruce Arians of the Indianapolis Colts. There are also the high-profile targets such as college coaches Chip Kelly and Nick Saban and former Super Bowl winners Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher.
