The Houston Texans came away with the win on Thanksgiving day against the Detroit Lions. They pushed their record to 9-1 on the season. However, it wasn't all good news for Houston. Brooks Reed had to exit the game and could not return due to an injury.
According to NFL.com, Reed suffered a groin injury in the first quarter of the game. He was unable to return. His status will be updated after the team has had time to evaluate him. Redd seemed to have injured his leg, but as it turned out, he had suffered what will surely be a strained groin once the official diagnosis comes out.
The Texans are having their best season since starting up as an expansion team. They have a stranglehold on the AFC South, and they look like they won't let up. However, their last two games have resulted in overtime wins. A team can't survive that way. They will have to get back to winning games early on - and in regulation. Losing Brooks Redd won't help that.
Reed is in his second NFL season. He has 8.5 sacks in his career including 2.5 so far this season. In his rookie year, Reed had six sacks. It was a respectable start to a career as an NFL linebacker, and he has continued that success this season. He's not having quite as good a year, but with 15 tackles to go along with his 2.5 sacks, Reed is still a threat on defense. If Houston loses him for any extended period of time, their defense would suffer. Fortunately, the Texans have such a large lead in the division and such a good record, they can afford to lose a couple games without getting into too much trouble.
Of course, the team and their fans do not want to see that happen. So, hopefully Reed will be able to return for the team's next game.
