Redskins Injury Report: Pierre Garcon Has Torn Ligament in Foot

While the Washington Redskins may have the best player in the NFL in Robert Griffin III, they still need a supporting cast.  Part of that cast is Pierre Garcon.  Unfortunately, Garcon has a torn ligament in his right foot - his toe to be exact.  He hopes to avoid surgery, but if he does have surgery it could take away one of RGIII's weapons.

According to Mike Jones and Mark Maske of the Washington Post, Garcon will try to rest for a couple of weeks to see if the injury will heal on its own.  If it does not, he will undergo surgery.  Most people expect Garcon to be out until the Redskins have their bye in Week 10.  It's not out of the question that Garcon misses the rest of the season, though.

Garcon was signed by the Redskins this past offseason.  They expected him to step up their receiving core and be the leading receiver on the team.  Unfortunately, Garcon has not played since October 7th and has just eight receptions on the year.  The injury occurred sometime before the Redskins played the Saints in the season-opener, but Garcon is not sure when exactly.  However, during that game the toe got worse.
“It was overuse. That’s the best term. I felt it early in the year. I felt it early in the preseason. But, you know, I just kept playing,” Garcon said. “I’m kind of stubborn. So I just keep playing, fighting through whatever. But it was just a toe injury so I was like, ‘it’ll be all right. Just ice it. Just keep playing.’ And then in New Orleans I felt a pop. And that’s when things are serious, when you feel a pop.”
Garcon is in his fifth year in the NFL.  He spent his entire career up to this season in Indianapolis.  He was one of Peyton Manning's favored targets in the last few seasons with the Colts.  Garcon has 17 career touchdowns and over 2,600 yards receiving.
