Packers injury updates: Clay Matthews, Jermichael Finley, James Starks

The Green Bay Packers have several key players on their injury report entering this weekend's matchup against the Detroit Lions. However, they've received positive news on at least a pair of regulars, linebacker Clay Matthews and tight end Jermichael Finley. Meanwhile, Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel reports that running back James Starks is expected to miss the next couple of weeks due to his knee injury.

Head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters after yesterday's practice that he feels Matthews is making progress. The linebacker suffered a hamstring injury against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he was able to participate in Wednesday's practice in a limited capacity.
"I think Clay is better," McCarthy said. "He's made a lot of progress since coming off the field in Cincinnati. I'm hopeful that he'll be able to do more tomorrow. That's the plan."
McCarthy added that Starks will miss a "couple weeks" with his knee injury. He suffered the ailment just before halftime of the Bengals game. Stark is the Packers' leading rusher, but they had rookie Eddie Lacy practice fully as he continues to recover from his concussion.

Finley is also battling his way back from a concussion suffered when he was hit by Bengals safety George Iloka. He was able to return to practice yesterday after being cleared by the NFL, according to ESPN.
