One team’s trash is another team’s treasure. Josh
Alper of NBCSports reports that the New York Jets have claimed former New
England Patriots tight end, Zach Sudeld, off waivers on Friday. The Patriots released Sudfeld a day earlier
after they signed former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver, Austin Collie.
Sudfeld made the Patriots as an undrafted free agent this year and shined during the preseason but turned into Zach Dudfeld when the games counted. Over the past few weeks, Sudfeld's playing time diminished.
It befuddles me as to why the Jets would claim Sudfeld unless it is to give one back to the Patriots for Danny Woodhead. Jets' TEs Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Winslow see the majority of the snaps. In addition, head coach Rex Ryan and the Jets already know that Patriots' offense, probably better than Sudfeld.
This move is a helmet scratcher, if not a useless one. However, it is the Jets so moves like this are expected.
