With the addition of running back Reggie Bush, the Detroit
Lions offense entered the season as one of the strongest such units in the
league. However, that unit took a hit yesterday, as the Lions announced No. 2
wide receiver Nate Burleson suffered a broken arm during a car accident.

Burleson broke his arm in two places during the wreck, and
the veteran wide receiver will require surgery as a result of his injuries.
While the injury will sideline Burleson indefinitely at this point, Detroit did
release a statement saying they expect him to rejoin the team at some point
this season. The Lions currently have no plan on placing Burleson on IR.
There was no alcohol involved, but instead pizza was the
distraction. Burleson struck the center median when he attempted to stop a
pizza from falling off his passenger front seat.
It’s a big blow to the Lions, as Burleson was their leading
receiver with 19 receptions on the season. He had a big game Sunday against the
Washington Redskins, hauling in six catches for 116 yards. In his absence,
Detroit will now ask Ryan Broyles to step into the No. 2 slot behind Calvin Johnson.
