The upcoming NFL Draft will impact every team in the league,
but Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert told reporters during
today’s press conference that the future of several veterans will be impacted
by the selections the club makes this weekend. Specifically, who the Steelers
do or do not draft could impact the team’s willingness to sign free agents
Casey Hampton, Max Starks and Ahmad Bradshaw.

The door appeared to be closed on a Hampton return when the
Steelers signed Steve McLendon to a three-year contract. It was expected that
McLendon would replace the ‘Big Snack,’ but Colbert indicated that Pittsburgh
is leaving the door open when it comes to Hampton and fellow veteran Max
Starks.
The Steelers have a clear need for a running back after
losing Rashard Mendenhall to free agency and cutting Chris Rainey. Bradshaw
could help fill the void, though there are questions surrounding his health. If
Pittsburgh adds a running back in the draft, the team’s chances of inking
Bradshaw would figure to greatly diminish.
