Most of the focus last night was on the tumultuous evening of former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. However, Smith wasn't the only high-profile prospect to slide out of the first round. Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o also didn't hear his name called on the first day of the NFL Draft, and we'll have to wait until tonight to see how long his slide continues.
There are some serious questions surrounding Te'o. It's beyond the whole Catfish incident. It now appears that teams are concerned about his ability on the field.
This became evident throughout the first round. The New York Giants passed on Te'o, but that wasn't overly alarming considering they had a significant need on the right side of their O-line. Things got a little dicier when the Chicago Bears -- who were said to be tabbing Te'o as Brian Urlacher's replacement -- also opted for an offensive lineman.
Beyond the Giants and the Bears, the Minnesota Vikings passed on Te'o three times in the first round. Minnesota went with three players not named Te'o despite the fact that they have an obvious need at the position of middle linebacker.
