The 2012 season of Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson
was ended prematurely when he suffered a broken leg. He’s been working hard to
return to the field since, as Burleson is told NFL.com that he’s currently
three months ahead of his recovery schedule.
"The great news is I'm healed up," Burleson said. "I just got news from my doctors that the bone is good. I'm running and jumping three months ahead of schedule."
If he’s able to return healthy for the start of the new
season, Burleson will be counted on as the Lions’ No. 2 receiver behind Calvin
Johnson. The 31-year-old did say that he would welcome competition at the
position, noting that “the more ammunition you have the better it is for you to
go out there and battle.”
Burleson was limited to six games last season due to the
injury. Prior to breaking his leg, the wide receiver caught 27 passes for 240
yards and two touchdowns.
