There has been speculation throughout the offseason that the
New York Jets could look to trade All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. However,
Revis remains on the Jets’ roster, and the team plans on enforcing language in
the cornerback’s contract which requires him to attend New York’s offseason
conditioning program in order to collect a bonus, according to Rich Cimini of
ESPN New York.
While Revis wants to be paid like one of the top defensive
players in the NFL – a request the Jets don’t seem to be in a hurry to fulfill –
he won’t be able to hold out through the beginning of workouts unless he wants
to forfeit $3 million in bonuses.
Revis continues to rehab his surgically-repaired knee with
his personal trainer in Arizona. The veteran has said he’d prefer to remain
with the Jets, but that he also is seeking a huge contract extension.
New York likely isn’t willing to meet these demands, leading
many to speculate of Revis’ potential trade. However, the Jets haven’t gotten
the offers they reportedly were seeking for Revis, and as a result he remains
on their roster.
