The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 31 overall pick in the
first round of the NFL Draft, but they are also armed with 12 other selections.
Considering they are a team that has relatively few holes, they could be a
candidate to move up for a player they target. One general manager expects something
to happen, as an unnamed executive told Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that they
believe San Francisco will either move up or down this weekend.
San Francisco could trade up in the draft, potentially to
the No. 13 or 14 overall pick, to grab the defensive lineman they covet to help
ultimately replace Justin Smith. Beyond defensive end, the 49ers are also said
to be seeking a safety, No. 2 tight end and impact corner.
The team could also attempt to trade out of the first round
if it doesn’t like how things unfold. This would allow them to acquire
additional picks in future drafts.
Whatever the case, there is expectation that the 49ers could
be busy this weekend. It appears that San Francisco is poised to either get
richer now or build up their stock pile of picks for years to come.
