The Oakland Raiders are deep in trade talks with the Seattle
Seahawks regarding quarterback Matt Flynn. Even if those talks fall through, it’s
become apparent that Carson Palmer’s tenure in Oakland is coming to an end. As
a result, several teams – including the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay
Buccaneers – are reportedly showing interest in Palmer, while the veteran seems
to have some interest in playing for the San Francisco 49ers.
The Cardinals are “doing their homework” on Palmer,
according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Arizona’s coach Bruce Arians covets a vertical
passing game, and Palmer could certainly be a fit.
The Bucs are reportedly seeking a second option to current
starter Josh Freeman. Meanwhile, Palmer is said to have interest in joining the
49ers as a backup. It’s been reported that he’d take a lesser role to play for
a team other than the Raiders, but it’s unclear if San Francisco has any
interest in acquiring him.
