Safety Ed Reed remains unsigned, and it appears his decision
on where to play next season and beyond has come down to two teams, the
Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.
The Ravens are reportedly still in play for Reed. However,
their real interest in re-signing the veteran is unknown, as is their ability
to fit him into their already tight budget. Baltimore has had to watch several
other high-profile players walk this free agency period, and it’s unclear if
they can – or want to – retain Reed.
After visiting with the Texans last week, Reed appeared
headed for Houston. However, the team’s initial three-year offer was reportedly
too low to ink the safety, according to The Baltimore Sun. This would seem to
suggest that Reed would be willing to leave the Ravens in favor of another club
if the price were right.
Houston lost safety Glover Quin to the Lions earlier this
offseason, and they are looking to replace him with Reed. Baltimore has lost
several players between retirement and free agency, and they may look to bring
at least one available piece of last year’s Super Bowl squad back.
