St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson will void his current contract, making him a free agent, and the Atlanta Falcons are his most
likely landing spot, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports.
Atlanta is expected to release veteran running back Michael
Turner this offseason, and they’ll need a replacement. It’s starting to look
like tight end Tony Gonzalez might push off retirement for at least one more
season, and the Falcons could elect to sign fellow veteran Jackson to make a
push in 2013.
Jackson has said that he doesn’t simply want to compete, but
instead he’s looking to sign with a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Only the
New England Patriots have won more regular season games than the Falcons over
the past five seasons. Atlanta has a solid core, especially on offense, built
around Gonzalez, Matt Ryan, Roddy White and Julio Jones.
