Lions RB Jahvid Best Not Expected to Play Football Again

The future looked bright for running back Jahvid Best when the Detroit Lions selected him in the first-round of the 2010 NFL Draft. However, brain injuries have taken their toll, and at this point no doctor is willing to clear Best to play again in the NFL, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press.

Best isn't expected to play football again after doctors refused to clear him this season following a pair of concussions in 2011.

Best still hasn’t celebrated his 24th birthday, but his professional career is over after sustaining four concussions since his playing days at the University of California.

Best played in 16 games for the Lions in 2010, rushing for 555 yards on 171 attempts with four touchdowns. He also caught 58 passes for 487 yards and two scores that season.

In 2011, Best was limited to just six games due to injury, and the once dynamic running back didn’t play at all for Detroit in 2012.
