Jets Rumors: New York Has Explored JaMarcus Russell

Following his late-season benching, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has several questions surrounding him as the team prepares for the 2013 campaign. For this reason, New York is expected to explore alternative options, leading the organization to hold “some very exploratory, informal discussions” regarding former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, according to Connor Orr of The Star-Ledger.

More recently, after Tannenbaum was let go, members of the organization had some very exploratory, informal discussions regarding former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the 2007 No. 1 overall pick who flamed out of the NFL after the 2009 season.

Russell recently announced plans of attempting a comeback to the National Football League. The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft has been out of football since 2009, but he’s now reportedly training to get back into playing shape. Most analysts believe teams will be willing to give the 27-year-old a look if he’s able to do so, considering his age and track record as a top quarterback prospect.

Beyond Russell, the Jets could look to potentially available quarterbacks, including Michael Vick, Alex Smith and Matt Flynn, or look to the draft for their next signal caller. Of course, New York could also elect to stick with Sanchez.
