The Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jake Long is seeking “at
least $10 million a year,” leaving the team pessimistic about its chances of
re-signing the former Pro Bowler, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami
Herald.
Long, believed to be seeking at least $10 million a year, scoffed at Miami’s first offer during the season, according to a teammate.
The Dolphins approached Long during the season with an
extension offer, but the former top pick “scoffed” at it, according to a
teammate. While their chances may be slim considering Long’s lofty asking
price, Miami said it would continue to attempt to re-sign the offensive
lineman.
Long had been considered one of the top offensive tackles in
the NFL entering the 2012 season. Unfortunately for Long, his play dropped off
last season and he struggled with injuries, but it hasn’t stopped him for asking
for top money.
The Dolphins will have several other players, including
Reggie Bush, Chris Clemons, Brian Hartline and Randy Starks, potentially
testing the free agent market, lessening the likelihood of reaching an
agreement with Long even more.
