Steelers Injury Report: Charlie Batch Ready for His Start

Charlie Batch is basically an assistant coach.  He help Mike Tomlin on the sidelines anytime he needs it.  He motivates players.  But he's also a back-up quarterback still.  As a third-string QB, it's difficult to foresee a situation where he would start, but the Steelers are in that exact situation this week.  And Batch says he's ready.

According to Paul Zeise of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Batch is nervous but he is ready to play.  He is an experienced NFL starter and an even more experience NFL back-up.

"I do get excited, and you kind of get those butterflies running through, but you have to kind of control them because we are still far enough away from game day that you don't want to use all of your energy right now," said Batch while looking ahead to the AFC North game.. "I think now, over the years, I still get excited because these kinds opportunities don't come my way much, and right now I have another."
Batch has played 12 years in the NFL, and he has made 53 starts.  He has 60 career touchdowns against 48 interceptions.  The 37-year old knows how to manage an offense.  And at this point, he knows how to manage the Steelers offense.  With Pittsburgh, Batch has made 47 starts.  He is used to the team's defense-oriented plans and run-first mentality.  Although with Ben Roethlisberger, the team has gone to more of a throw-first offense.

Pittsburgh lost in the the team's first game without Roethlisberger, and they lost Byron Leftwich.  The Steelers have probably three more games to get through without their Pro Bowl quarterback.
