Bears Injury Report: Alshon Jeffery to Undergo Knee Surgery

Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was able to return from a broken hand Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers. The hand injury required surgery and kept him out for most of the first half of the season. Jeffery sustained another injury, this time to his knee, Monday, and he’s set to undergo arthroscopic surgery this morning.

The injury wasn’t initially expected to be severe, as Jeffery was able to walk off the field under his own power without a noticeable limp. However, the rookie wide receiver will require surgery and a timeframe for his return isn’t clear. ESPNChicago.com is reporting he’ll miss two weeks, while the Chicago Sun-Times is saying it will be closer to four to six weeks.

Jeffery’s return offered Chicago’s quarterback, Jason Campbell for now and Jay Cutler long-term, a number two target opposite Brandon Marshall. With Jeffery out for another extended stretch the Bears will once again depend on former cornerback Devin Hester to expand his role.
