The Oakland Raiders received a scare today when wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was knocked unconscious during the team's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Heyward-Bey was hit by Steelers' safety Ryan Mundy in the end zone helmet-to-helmet. Heyward-Bey lay motionless for a few moments before eventually being carted off the field. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd while strapped to the cart.
According to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review sports columnist Dejan Kovacevic, Heyward-Bey is stable and the injury does not appear to be as serious as it looked on the field.
The Raiders went on to beat the Steelers 34-31. Heyward-Bey's status for next week's game against the Denver Broncos in Denver. The Raiders will be looking to pull to 2-2 in the AFC West. They trail the San Diego Chargers who are 2-1 on the season.
